Dr. Tuller held the Sumitomo Electric Industries Chair at MIT (1991-97); was elected Fellow of the American Ceramic Society in 1984; was the recipient of a Fulbright Award in 1989-1990 and the von Humboldt Award (Stuttgart, Germany) in 1997-2002; was awarded docteur honoris causa by University of Provence, Marseille, France, 2004; Elected Member, World Academy of Ceramics (2006); FH Norton Awardee, American Ceramic Society (2007); Orton Awardee, American Ceramic Society (2008); McMahon Awardee, Alfred University, NY (2009); Docteur Honoris Causa, University of Oulu, Finland (2009); Honorable Guest Professor; Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University, Japan (2009 - 2012); Outstanding Achievement Award - High Temperature Division, The Electrochemical Society (2010); Distinguished Israel Pollack Lecturer, The Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (2010); Somiya Award for International Collaboration in Materials Research, International Union Materials Research Societies, Japan (2012); Helmholtz International Fellow Award from the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers (2012); Honorable Guest Professor of the Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University, Japan (2013).
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Prof. Tuller’s current research emphasizes the modeling, processing, characterization and optimization of energy related devices (sensors, batteries, fuel cells, solar/photolysis cells) and the integration of sensor, actuator and photonic materials into micro-electromechanical (MEMS) systems. This work has been extensively published in the form of over 375 articles, 15 co-edited books and 28 patents.
